Hanging On -Peter and John & the crippled begger

This Gospel is from the Readings from Thursday of Easter Week in the RCL

“While the beggar held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon’s colonnade.”

Acts 3: 11

God continues to guide me to mediate on healing and faith. I love the vision of the beggar holding on to John and Peter. Just imagine his emotions having been crippled from birth and being carried every day to the temple gate for healing. “…all the people were astonished.”  People who had likely seen this man lying on ground for years while walking past him Just a man on a mat. I’m not sure astonished begins to describe what they were experiencing for they had just witnessed a miracle!

Peter soon replies to the crowd: “By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus name and faith that comes through him that has given this complete healing to him, as you all can all see.

Acts 3: 16

Witnesses. Complete healing. When God guides me to these verses, the importance of witnessing and complete healing jump out of His Word.

We are all aware of false healers. In the media and in our community, they prey on and pray over the helpless and most desperate among us. My prayer for us is to be firm in our faith when we are given the opportunity to be a gentle witness. Let us pray to God’s Holy Spirit for us to speak His truth and His Words of healing. Only God knows the miracles that will take place when we do!
