The Community of Christ Our Hope Sydney does not have a formal policy on the AUSTRALIAN MARRIAGE LAW POSTAL SURVEY but notes the well-formed position of St Peter’s Eastern Hill (Melbourne). We congratulate the Parish Council on their wisdom and publish the extract below from their pew sheet for this week end.
Once again the question of equality for our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters raises the ugly head of the serpent and spoils the garden oncemore.
It has already brought about a very heated argument between myself and one of our social support workers who still believes that lgbtqi people are so marginal as not to be considered as people at all. Who do not have the same choices as so called “majority normal people” That marriage is between a man and a woman for the begetting of children. That those of us who are on the margines have no right to the choice to marry or not.
One of the matters that fuelled my pain as a transsexual person, before the Marriage Act, was to be denied marriage. It was something Jessica treasured as part of her femininity, to walk down the aisle of a church.
Since then Jessica and I have married in a church.
