Sacraments of Healing
Are the Anointing of the Sick and of Penance or Reconciliation.
Sacrament of Anointing
A sacrament of the New Law instituted by Christ to give spiritual aid and comfort and perfect spiritual health, including, if need be, the remission of sins, and also, conditionally, to restore bodily health, to Christians who are seriously ill; it consists essentially in the unction by a priest of the body of the sick person, accompanied by a suitable form of words.
At Christ Our Hope the Sacrament is celebrated in two ways; either within the context of a communal “Healing Celebration” or individually, within a hospital/private home setting.
Communal Healing Celebration:
Hospital/Private Home setting: A pastoral visit by Clergy to a local hospital may present an opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament, if requested by the individual who is either unwell (Anointing and Viaticum) or preparing for death (Extreme Unction). In addition, a home visit also has been especially appropriate for the administering of this holy sacrament of “Christian strengthening of soul, mind and body”.
